Abstract
This thesis comprises five translations with commentary. Excerpts from three books were translated from English into Croatian (Watching the English: The Hidden Rules of English Behaviour, Sociology Beyond Societies: Mobilities for the Twenty-First Century and The Age of Living Machines: How Biology Will Build the Next Technology Revolution), and two from Croatian into English (Spomenici otoka Lopuda od antike do srednjeg vijeka and Nasmijati psa i sedam novih priča). The commentary focused on culture-specific items found in the source texts and the procedures used to translate them. The procedures that were used include addition, substitution, literal translation and omission. The thought process behind the translation of each example is discussed in detail.

Rad se sastoji od pet prijevoda s komentarima. S engleskog na hrvatski prevedeni su ulomci iz triju knjiga (Watching the English: The Hidden Rules of English Behaviour, Sociology Beyond Societies: Mobilities for the Twenty-First Century i The Age of Living Machines: How Biology Will Build the Next Technology Revolution), dok su s hrvatskog na engleski prevedeni ulomci iz dviju knjiga (Spomenici otoka Lopuda od antike do srednjeg vijeka i Nasmijati psa i sedam novih priča). Komentari su usmjereni na kulturno specifične pojmove koji se javljaju u izvornim tekstovima i postupke pomoću kojih se oni prevode. Korišteni postupci u prijevodima su dodavanje, zamjena, doslovan prijevod i izostavljanje. Detaljno je prikazan misaoni proces iza prijevoda svakog primjera.
