Studying graves in archaeology has always been unavoidable when trying to reconstruct lifestyles of past communities. On the islands of Krk and Cres, significant archaeological sites with various types of burials were discovered, especially during the Late Antiquity period where there is no more incineration on these islands. With expansion of Christianity, followed by the construction of churches, there is a change in the organization of the cemeteries and in the funeral practices as well, which includes laying of the deceased without grave goods. Different types of burials that are concentrated around and within the churches, built on new positions, reflect wider social changes and new concepts related to mortal remains, as evidenced by burials within the area of ancient cities. The aim of this work is to demonstrate the variety of burials, concerning the types of graves and their constructions, starting from the century in which the Church's strengthening and the gradual establishment of church organizations on Krk and Cres have occured. The purpose of the work was to follow the funerary practices over the next centuries and to show significant early medieval sites of religious communities that marked the history of these islands. Special attention is given to the archeological context in which graves are discovered. For this reason, all the information related to a grave are presented; in an attempt to overcome the mere description of the grave structure and with the aim of understanding the broader social image that the burials can point us. The basic division of the burial types from the 4th to the 11th century was carried out, with significant number of Late Antiquity burials on the Krk island, while among Early Medieval burials the main center of the island of Cres stands out.
