Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) is a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate and the most commonly used base polymer in hot melt adhesivesof general purpose. The properties of the polymers of ethylene and vinyl acetate give this copolymer wide application and due to its reliability and durability, hot melt EVA adhesives are used in various industries, for various applications. The fillers used in this work are silicon dioxide, SiO2 and titanium dioxide, TiO2, which are recently one of the most commonly used oxides for the preparation of polymer composites. In this work EVA+SiO2 and EVA+TiO2 composites with different volume filler contents of 0.1; 0.3; 0.5; and 1,0 % were prepared by mixing in the Brabender plasticorder. The surface free energy of the components was determined by the contact angle method, and was used to determine the adhesion parameters of EVA+SiO2 and EVA+TiO2 composites. The thermal properties of the composites were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The mechanical properties were determined by a tensile test. From the adhesion parameters it can be assumed that more significant interactions will be established between the EVA matrix and TiO2 filler compared to SiO2 filler. According to the results of DSC analysis, EVA copolymer is semi-crystalline, and the addition of filler has no significant effect on the crystalline and melting temperature. Both fillers hinder crystallization of EVA matrix (except in systems with 0,1 % filler addition). The results of the TGA analysis showed that the addition of SiO2 and TiO2 fillers to the EVA matrix did not have a significant effect on the thermal stability of the EVA matrix. EVA copolymer is an extremely tough material, and the addition of filler in the concentration range up to 1,0 % increases the strength and modulus of the EVA matrix.
