Abstract
Ultrafiltracija (UF) je proces koji spada u tlačne membranske procese i predstavlja naprednu tehnologiju za obradu otpadnih i pitkih voda. U ovom radu ispitivana je učinkovitost četiri UF membrane graničnih molekulskih masa (eng. Molecular weight cut-off, MWCO) 2, 3, 5 i 10 kDa pri uklanjanju anionskih, kationskih i neionskih tenzida iz realne tekstilne otpadne vode (TOV-e). Također su ispitivani i fizikalno-kemijski parametri TOV-a i permeata (pH, električna provodnost, mutnoća, kemijska potrošnja kisika i apsorbancije pri 436 nm, 525 nm i 620 nm). Još su praćeni permeabilnost i fluks, odnosno blokiranje membrane (eng. fouling). Rezultati istraživanja pokazali su da je membrana MWCO vrijednosti 2 kDa najefikasnija u uklanjanju tenzida iz TOV-e. Njome je postignuto zadržavanje anionskih tenzida od 92,1 %, kationskih od 70,1 % i neionskih od 62,5 %. Najmanje zadržavanje tenzida pokazuje membrana MWCO vrijednosti 10 kDa. Za anionske tenzide to je 59,7 %, za kationske 64,5 %, a za neionske 60,6 %. Kao problem kod svih ispitivanih membrana javlja se blokiranje membrane što uzrokuje pad fluksa i smanjenje protočnosti membrane. Značajan pad fluksa uočen je kod membrana većih MWCO vrijednosti.
Abstract (english)
Ultrafiltration (UF) is a process which falls under pressure driven membrane processes and represents an advanced technology used in wastewater and drinking water treatment. The basis of this research was testing the efficiency of four UF membranes of molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) values 2, 3, 5 and 10 kDa in retaining anionic, cationic and nonionic surfactants present in textile wastewater samples given. Physical and chemical parameters (pH, conductivity, turbidity, chemical oxygen demand and absorbance at 436 nm, 525 nm and 620 nm) of feeds and permeates were also measured and so were permeability and permeate flux, i.e. membrane fouling. Results show that the 2 kDa membrane is the most efficient in retaining surfactants present in textile wastewater. It retained 92.1 % of anionic, 70.1 % of cationic and 62.5 % of nonionic surfactants present. The 10 kDa membrane displayed the worst retention rate, retaining 59.7 % of anionic, 64.5 % cationic and 60.6 % nonionic surfactants. Membrane fouling is a recurring issue which causes a drop in permeate flux and membrane permeability. Significant drops in permeate flux were observed with membranes of larger MWCO values.
