Abstract
Industrijski napredak donio je važan polimerni materijal, plastiku. Zbog masovne proizvodnje i korištenja te nepravilnog upravljanja i zbrinjavanja, onečišćenje plastikom danas je postalo jedno od najvažnijih ekoloških pitanja u svijetu. Procesima razgradnje, plastika se raspada na manje čestice zvane mikroplastikom (MP) veličine 1 μm do 5 mm. Kako bi se poboljšala spoznaja o stupnju onečišćenja plastikom, njenom transportu, distribuciji i toksičnosi u okolišu potrebno je hitno riješiti nedostatke u znanju vezano za nju. U ovom radu se provelo ekotoksikološko istraživanje utjecaja MP-a polietilena (PE) na slatkovodnu mikroalgu Scenedesmus sp.. Mikroalga se izlagala različitim veličinama i koncentracijama PE-a kako bi se utvrdilo koliko je ova vrsta MP-a štetna za Scenedesmus sp. Rasponi veličina čestica su iznosili <300 μm; 300 μm do 500 μm i 500 μm do 710 μm pri koncentracijama od 50 mg/L; 250 mg/L; 500 mg/L; 750 mg/L i 1000 mg/L. Provedena istraživanja ukazuju da različite koncentracije i veličine MP-a imaju različit utjecaj na mikroalge. Najveća uočena inhibicija rasta mikroalge Scenedesmus sp., 12,99%, se pojavila kod najmanje veličine čestica, <300 μm, pri koncentraciji od 1000 mg/L. Uočeno je da su koncentracija i veličina čestica značajni parametri u ekotoksikološkim istraživanjima jer direktno utječu na inhibiciju.
Abstract (english)
Industrial advances have brought us an important polymeric material known as plastic. Due to mass production and use, improper management, and disposal, plastic pollution has become one of the imperative environmental issues in the world. By decomposition processes, plastic breaks down into smaller particles called microplastics (MP) sizes ranging from 1 μm to 5 mm. In order to improve knowledge about the degree of plastic pollution, its transport, distribution and toxicity in the environment, it is necessary to urgently address the knowledge gaps related to it. This paper has conducted ecotoxicological research on the influence of MP polyethylene (PE) on the freshwater microalgae Scenedesmus sp.. The microalgae were exposed to different sizes and concentrations of PE to determine how harmful this type of MP is to Scenedesmus sp. Particle size ranges were <300 μm; 300 μm to 500 μm and 500 μm to 710 μm at concentrations of 50 mg/L; 250 mg/L; 500 mg/L; 750 mg/L and 1000 mg/L. Studies conducted indicate that different concentrations and sizes of MP have a different impact on microalgae. The largest observed inhibition of the growth of the Scenedesmus sp. microalgae, 12.99%, occurred in the smallest particle size, <300 μm, at a concentration of 1000 mg/L. It was observed that the concentration and size of particles are significant parameters in ecotoxicological studies because they directly affect inhibition.
