Abstract
U ovom su radu opisana svojstva i primjena poli(vinil-alkohola). Poli(vinil-alkohol) sintetski je polimer s odličnim svojstvima, topljiv u vodi. Karakteriziraju ga visoka vlačna čvrstoća, modul elastičnosti te visoka barijerna svojstva za kisik i aromatske tvari, nekancerogenost, biokompatibilnost, biorazgradljivost te neotrovnost. Odlična svojstva poli(vinil-alkohola) omogućila su mu široku primjenu u mnogim industrijama poput kemijske, farmaceutske, prehrambene, tekstilne te u građevinarstvu, medicini itd. Glavna primjena je u medicini gdje se koriste hidrogelovi na bazi poli(vinil-alkohola) za izradu kontaktnih leća, umjetne hrskavice, kardiovaskularnih implantata i obloga za rane. U tekstilnoj se industriji poli(vinil-alkohol) upotrebljava u obliku vlakana zbog iznimno visoke vlačne čvrstoće. Primjenjuje se i kao emulgator, ljepilo, zaštitni premaz, ambalaža te u obliku sirovine u proizvodnji drugih polimera.
Abstract (english)
In this research properties and application of poly(vinyl alcohol) are described. Poly(vinyl alcohol) is a synthetic polymer with excellent properties, soluble in water. It is characterised by high tensile strength, module of elasticity and good barrier properties for oxygen and aromatic substances. It is non-carcinogenic, biocompatible, biodegradable and non-toxic polymer. Excellent characteristics of poly(vinyl alcohol) enable its wide usage in many industries like chemical, pharmaceutical, food, textile and in construction engineering, medicine etc. The main usage is in medicine for production of hydrogels used in fabrication of contact lenses, artificial cartilage, cardiovascular implants and compresses for wounds. In textile industry poly(vinyl alcohol) is used in the shape of fibres with extremely high tensile strength. It is also being used as emulsifier, glue, protection layer, wrapping material and as a raw material in the synthesis of another polymers.
