Inorganic mineral binders, by definition, are substances, inorganic mineral origin, which, when mixed with water action of physicochemical processes over time cure or bind to solid stone similar creation of certain strength. Portland cement, white portland cement, aluminous cement and lime setting and hardening had been studied by electrochemical measurements the potential difference between two metal electrodes in contact with the cement paste. The following electrodes materials were tested: nickel, wolfram and graphite. Potential changes due to imposed temperature changes had been also studied. Wolfram electrode is sensitive to pH changes and its potential change qualitatively corresponds to the rate of heat liberation curve. Thermocouple voltages at different conductors contact is insignificant compared to the potential changes caused by temperature changes of cement paste. Measurement of electrode potentials during cement setting and hardening enables easy and nondestructive way of cement characterization in laboratory and field measurements. A pair of electrodes wolfram-nickel does not show potential change with temperature. To make it possible to track changes potential with the temperature it is necessary to use a pair of electrodes of semiconductor-metal such as graphite-nickel and graphite-wolfram.
