Pesticides are substances of biological or chemical origin whose basic purpose is to exterminate any harmful organisms for plants and animal produce. Overuse of pesticides can result in various soil and water pollution as well as secondary poisoning. In this paper, the emphasis is on anticoagulant rodenticides whose usage is increased due to ban on the use of carbofuran. The goal of this paper was to develop and validate qualitative chromatographic methods of determination of the following anticoagulant rodenticides: brodifacoum, bromadiolone, difenacoum, difethialone, flocoumafen and chlorophacinone in real samples for the purpose of monitoring animal poisoning in the territory of the Republic of Croatia. For every rodenticide it has been developed and validated an isocratic and gradient HPLC/DAD method of analysis, but only for brodifacoum and flocoumafen has been developed an LC-MS method of analysis. Method validation was carried out by examining the following parameters: limit of detection, selectivity and robustness. All HPLC/DAD methods of rodenticides analysis are robust and selective except for difethialone whos isocratic method is nonselective. All HPLC/DAD methods of analysing chlorophacinone are specific. LC-MS methods of analysis are specific. After analysing the real samples, it is known that 63 % of them didn’t contain any pesticides, 27 % carbofuran, 8 % metaldehyde and 2 % bromadiolon.
