Torasemide is a drug that belongs to the group of diuretics and has the largest role in the treatment of hypertension, swelling due to the congestive heart failure and swelling due to liver or kidney disease. Increased use of this pharmaceutical may cause accumulation in the environment (soil, groundwater and surface water), and different decomposition processes may result in new products that may be more toxic than the starting compound. Photocatalysis is a process by which the concentration of active substance can be reduced under the action of light and photocatalysts, and therefore remove the pharmaceutical from the environment. One of the main prerequisites for this procedure is adsorption of contaminants on the photocatalyst. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine whether torasemide is sorbing on fiberglass mesh with immobilized TiO2. In this paper, the time and sorption kinetics were experimentally determined, as well as the influence of ionic strength, temperature, catalyst layer mass and pH value of the solution on the sorption of torasemide on fiberglass mesh with immobilized layer of titanium dioxide, TiO2 as photocatalyst. The mechanism of the sorption process was also examined using an intraparticle diffusion model. Maximum adsorption capacity is achieved after 24 hours of shaking, and the sorption parameters were determined by the mentioned tests using linear, Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm. The Dubinin-Radushkevich model was also used to determine the nature of the process. The obtained results show the best match with the linear model (R^2>0,99), while the sorption kinetics is best described with pseudo second order model due to the excellent value matching between qe,exp and qe,calc.
