The human population has been occupied in recent decades by problems related to waste accumulation and global warming. In addition, population growth requires an increasing need for energy, which has so far been obtained mainly from non-renewable sources. More recently, the processing of carbon raw materials to produce heat, chemicals or fuels offers an alternative to landfills and provides an adjunct to the use of fossil fuels. The use of biomass also enables employment, increasing local and regional economic activity and generating additional income in agriculture, forestry and the wood industry through the sale of biomass fuels. In addition to economic, the use of biomass for fuel production brings a number of environmental benefits such as CO2 neutrality, reduced emissions of nitrogen and sulfur oxides, but also the use of energy from renewable sources. It is the process of pyrolysis that allows the decomposition of biomass without the presence of oxygen, in order to form the main products: bio-coal, bio-oil and pyrolytic gas. The formation of each individual product is favored by different process parameters and the type of biomass used in the process, and these factors can be managed in order to maximize the desired product. Each of them individually has great potential and finds various applications in everyday life.
