Abstract
Pharmaceuticals are extensively utilized globally and their persistent nature and potential adverse impacts on the environment and human health are well−documented. The ubiquitous usage of pharmaceuticals significantly contributes to water pollution which has become a major global issue. Advanced oxidation processes have emerged as a promising solution to address this problem. In our study, we focused on monitoring the degradation of a commonly used active pharmaceutical compound, pantoprazole, using UV/H2O2 and UV/S2O82– advanced oxidation processes. We studied the influence of various water matrix factors, including pH, oxidant concentration, phosphate ion, sulfate ion, chloride ion, nitrite ion, nitrate ion, and humic acid, on the degradation rates of pantoprazole. To ensure efficient data collection while minimizing the experimental runs, we used the Taguchi design of experiment. The experimental results were analyzed using statistical software MiniTab. The analysis emphasized the notable influences of water matrix constituents on the degradation rates, which in most cases, were in agreement with previous scientific findings.

Farmaceutici se uvelike koriste na globalnoj razini, a njihova trajna priroda i potencijalni štetni utjecaji na okoliš i ljudsko zdravlje dobro su dokumentirani. Sveprisutna uporaba farmaceutika značajno pridonosi onečišćenju vode koje je postalo veliki globalni problem. Napredni oksidacijski procesi pojavili su se kao obećavajuće rješenje za rješavanje ovog problema. U ovom radu smo se usredotočili na praćenje razgradnje često korištenog aktivnog farmaceutskog spoja, pantoprazola, korištenjem UV/H2O2 i UV/S2O82– naprednih oksidacijskih procesa. Proučavali smo utjecaj različitih čimbenika vodene matrice, uključujući pH, koncentraciju oksidansa, fosfatni ion, sulfatni ion, kloridni ion, nitritni ion, nitratni ion i huminsku kiselinu, na brzinu razgradnje pantoprazola. Kako bismo osigurali učinkovito prikupljanje podataka uz minimiziranje broja eksperimenata, upotrijebili smo Taguchijev dizajn eksperimenta. Eksperimentalni rezultati analizirani su pomoću statističkog programa MiniTab. Analiza je naglasila značajne utjecaje sastojaka vodene matrice na brzinu razgradnje, koji su u većini slučajeva bili u skladu s prethodnim znanstvenim spoznajama.
