The aim of this work was to preparation and characterization of LDPE/ PCL blends and their application as a packaging materials as well as to determin the miscibility of LDPE/PP blends. Blends of low-density polyethylene (LDPE)/poly (ε-caprolactone) (PCL), (LDPE/PCL) were prepared with melt mixing (compounding) in Brabender mixer under different LDPE/ PCL content (100/0, 90/10, 70/30, 50/50, 30/70, 10/90 and 0/100 wt%). The specimens of neat polymers and LDPE/PCL blends were molded in hydraulic press. Non-degradable polymers as a packaging materials has bad influence on the environment, cause damage to plants, animals and along with acid rains, global warming, disappearance of plant and animal species, fertility of the soil, ozone layer it's being consider as one of the greatest environmental problem today. Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) sheets are used in food packaging because of it's good mechanical properties, easy processing and flexibility. However, the lack of LDPE as non-degradable packaging material is huge environmental pollution. Contribution of this research would be development of new, biodegradable materials which can be use in packaging fruit in fruitgrowing. The thermal properties of neat LDPE, PCL polymers and their blends and LDPE/ PCL blends were investigated by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The shift of glass transition temperature (Tg) indicated that LDPE and PCL are partially miscible. The thermal stability of the composites was enhenced with the addition of PCL and increase of the PCL content.
