Separacija azeotropnih smjesa predstavlja izazov jer se komponente ne mogu separirati jednostavnom destilacijom. Provedba separacije azeotropne smjese zahtijeva korištenje velike količine energije i primjenu toksičnih otapala, što ima negativan utjecaj na okoliš. Alternativa toksičnim otapalima su niskotemperaturna eutektička otapala (eng. Deep Eutectic Solvent, DES) jer su ekološki prihvatljiva te su jednostavna i jeftina za pripravu. Separation of azeotropic mixtures poses a challenge as their components cannot be easily separated by simple distillation. Separation of the azeotropic mixture requires the supply of large amounts of energy and harmful solvents, which harms the environment. An alternative to toxic solvents are deep eutectic solvents, they are environmentally friendly, simple and inexpensive to prepare.
