Abstract
Onečišćenje vodenoga okoliša posljedica je velikog porasta stanovništva i naglog tehnološkoga razvoja, što je dovelo do velikog povećanja ispuštenoga obujma komunalnih i industrijskih otpadnih voda. Industrijske otpadne vode predstavljaju posebnu opasnost za okoliš, jer često sadrže štetne i toksične tvari organskog i anorganskog podrijetla. Farmaceutici su dizajnirani s ciljem specifičnog djelovanja u biološkim sustavima te ukoliko dospiju u okoliš, predstavljaju problem zbog mogućeg štetnog djelovanja na pojedine organizme u ekosustavima. Iako se farmaceutici uglavnom koriste u relativno malim koncentracijama, njihova postojanost i mogućnost akumulacije u okolišu može rezultirati dugoročnim utjecajima na ljude i vodene organizme. Zbog navedenih razloga otpadne vode iz farmaceutske industrije ne mogu se izravno ispustiti u okoliš bez prethodno provedene obrade. Osim tradicionalnih metoda obrade, napredni oksidacijski procesi u novije vrijeme sve više postaju prioritetni procesi koji se primjenjuju za tu svrhu. S obzirom na uglavnom složeni sastav otpadnih voda iz farmaceutske industrije, često je potrebno primijeniti kombinaciju različitih postupaka kako bi se postigao željeni cilj i zadovoljili zakonski kriteriji vezani za ispust takvih voda u okoliš.
Abstract (english)
Water pollution is a result of high population growth and rapid technological development, which has led to an increase in the volume of discharged municipal and industrial wastewater. Industrial wastewater represent a special danger for the environment because they often contain harmful and toxic organic and inorganic substances. Pharmaceuticals have a specific use in biological systems and if they get into the environment they become a problem because of possible bad effects on some organisms in ecosystems. Although the concentrations of pharmaceuticals are generally low the concern is growing due to a possible long-term effects on humans and aquatic organisms as a result of long exposure to these compounds. For that reason pharmaceutical wastewater can not be discharged into environment without prior adequate treatment. Beside traditional treatment methods, advanced oxidation processes present nowadays one of the treatment possibilities of this type of wastewater. Considering the complexity of the pharmaceutical wastewater it is often necessary to apply a combination of different treatment methods in order to achieve and to satisfy the prescribed legal criteria for wastewater discharge into the environment.
