Abstract
Talij (Tl) je prirodni element u tragovima, široko rasprostranjen diljem Zemlje, ali u jako malim koncentracijama. Smatra se jednim od najtoksičnijih teških metala, međutim, postoji velika potražnja za talijem u visokoj tehnologiji. Povećanjem upotrebe talija u novim tehnologijama i visoko tehnološkoj industriji, povećala se i zabrinutost zbog rizika od izloženosti živih organizama. Trovanje se manifestira na različite načine, ovisno o dozi i putu administracije, kao i o vremenu izloženosti. Iako postoje neke teorije kako dolazi do trovanja, mehanizmi toksičnosti nisu još razjašnjeni u potpunosti. Osoba izložena taliju ili njegovim spojevima može razviti razne simptome kao što su slabost, bol u rukama i nogama, alopecija, mučnina, povraćanje, proljev, konvulzije, a može nastupiti i smrt. Tijekom godina su razvijene mnoge uspješne terapije za liječenje trovanja talijem od kojih je najpoznatiji lijek Berlinsko modrilo ili željezov heksacijanoferat (Fe4[Fe(CN)6]3). U ovom radu su opisane karakteristike talija, potencijalni izvori izloženosti te toksičnost na žive organizme.
Abstract (english)
Thallium (Tl) is a naturally occurring trace element, widely distributed all around the Earth, but at very low concentrations. It is considered to be one of the most toxic heavy metals, however, there is an increasing demand for thallium in high technology. The increasing use in high-tech industry constantly raises concerns about exposure risks to all living organisms. Poisoning is manifested in different ways depending on the dose and route of administration as well as the duration of exposure. Although there are several theories, the exact mechanism of thallium toxicity still remains unknown. A person exposed to thallium and its compounds develops symptoms such as malaise, pain in arms and legs, alopecia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions and even death. Many successful therapies were developed throughout the years, of which Prussian blue or ferric hexacyanoferrate (Fe4[Fe(CN)6]3) is the best known cure. Characteristics of thallium, its potential exposure sources and its toxicity to living organisms are described in this work.
