Nanocomposites due to their improved mechanical, thermal, optical, electrical and magnetic properties are used for various purposes depending upon the ratio between the organic and inorganic parts. Acrylic based polymers are widely used in the manufacture of coatings, paints and adhesives. Polyacrylate emulsion (PA) was synthesized by emulsion polymerization. With an ex situ method PA+SiO2 and PA+TiO2 emulsions were prepared in the concentration range of nanofillers φ = 1; 1,5; and 3 %, with the aim to investigate the influence of SiO2 and TiO2 nanofillers on the polyacrylate properties. Rheological properties of PAK+SiO2 and PAK+TiO2 emulsions were determinate. Surface characteristics of the fillers and PA film, adhesion parameters and thermal properties were investigated. Addition of SiO2 filler influences the rheological properties of the PA emulsion, while a significantly lower impact was observed for emulsions with TiO2 filler. Emulsion PA+3% of SiO2 which showed non-Newtonian behaviour was analysed by the Ostwald de Waele model which proved to be suitable for describing the rheological behaviour of this system. Results of adhesion parameters, showed that between PA and SiO2, and PA and TiO2 significant interactions will be established which is indicated by the high value of the coefficient of wetting and work of adhesion and the low interfacial free energy. The lower value of the interfacial free energy of the PA+SiO2 system compared to the PA+TiO2 system indicates stronger interactions between PA matrix and SiO2 filler. The DSC analysis showed that the polyacrylate matrix is amorphous and that the addition of both types of the filler, SiO2 and TiO2 in the concentration range 1-3% does not affects glass transition temperature of PA matrix. The results of TGA analysis showed that the addition of SiO2 and TiO2 nanofillers in lower concentrations improves thermal stability of the polyacrylate matrix at the beginning of thermal decomposition.
