Abstract
Poklade su razdoblje između blagdana Sveta tri kralja i korizme u kojem se priređuju povorke maškara, kostimirane zabave i druge manifestacije. Osim naziva maškare u Hrvatskoj se spominje još nekoliko naziva za to razdoblje. To su fašnik, karneval, mesopust i poklade. S tim nazivima često dolaze i razni običaji specifični za određeno područje. U Slavoniji u selu Vukojevci to su zvončari Vukojevački starcevi. Običaj je nastao prije više od 150 godina, a nositelji tradicije su neoženjeni mladići sela koji se na dan poklada spremaju u starceve. Starcevi odijevaju duge bijele gaće, bijele košulje dugih rukava i crni somatski frosluk. Na leđa pričvršćuju „u tri ćoška“ složenu, vezenu maramicu. Na bokove također pričvršćuju maramice, a oko struka stavljaju od 5 do 7 zvona koja su povezana na kožni pojas i omotana tkanicom ili trobojnicom. Obuvaju crne cipele- bakanđe i stavljaju kožne štitnike- kamašne, a na ruke stavljaju štrikane narukvice. Na glavu stavljaju rgaču, a u ruci nose drvenu šibu na vrhu koje je kugla- čulu.
Abstract (english)
Carnival is period between Christmas and Easter celebrations. In Croatian culture there are several names for that period. These names are: 'fašnik', 'karneval', 'mesopust' and 'poklade'. Each area in Croatia has its own tradition. Slavonian village Vukojevci is specific for his 'Old man'. Old man is a carnival. It's a slavonian ritual which originated over 150 years ago in the village Vukojevci. Owners of the tradition are unmarried young boys who dress them self into old men at the day of the carnival. They wear white pants, white shirts with long sleeves and black waistcoats. On their backs they attach handkerchiefs. They also attach handkerchiefs on the hips, one on each side. They put from 5 to 7 bells around their waist which are tied on leather belts and wrapped with webbing or tricolor. They wear black shoes called 'bakanđe' and leather pads called 'kamašne'. On their heads they wear masks called 'rgača' and in their hands they hold wooden switch with a ball called 'čula'
