We can say that computer literacy is a brand new skill related to the ability to use computers and associated technology effectively, which today is an essential skill for almost every individual (Tomičić i sur. 2012). Since the purpose of formal education is to provide students with the right knowledge and skills for continuous and complete development, it is necessary to help them develop computer skills, without which living in society today is not conceivable. Previous research on computer literacy in students from Croatia shows satisfactory results, according to which most of the students own computers and use them for different purposes. Their views are generally positive and highlight the importance of having developed computer skills. The goal of this research is to examine whether the primary school students have adequately developed computer literacy skills, as well as to investigate if it is necessary to introduce Informatics as a subject in primary school in Croatia. The survey was conducted on a sample of 75 primary school students in the fourth grade in Koprivnica-Križevci County. The survey analysis shows that computer literacy of students of fouth grade are at a very high level. Results show how students own certain skills of handling computer and other computer devices. The study divided the participants based on various sociodemographic characteristics (place of residence, whether they had a sibling), testing their impact on computer literacy of the pupil. Results show that there are no statistically significant differences in computer literacy between pupils living in cities compared to pupils living in rural areas, as well as that there are no statistically significant differences in computer literacy between pupils who do have siblings compared to those who don’t. Research has shown how students are quite successfull at using applications such as Paint, Word, Powerpoint and how they successfully use internet browser and e-mail. Also, the research confirms that students use a computer for different purposes (education/entertainment) and most students take a very responsible approach to computer work.
