Abstract
Koncept „zero waste“, odnosno koncept bez otpada postaje sve važniji u današnjem svijetu tijekom borbe s ekološkim izazovima kao što su onečišćenje i klimatske promjene. Koncept bez otpada, ključno je predstaviti djeci mlađe školske dobi kako bi im se usadile održive navike od najranije dobi. „Zero waste“ je filozofija koja ima za cilj odbiti nepotrebne, smanjiti, ponovno upotrijebiti i reciklirati materijale kako bi se smanjilo stvaranje otpada i njegov utjecaj na okoliš. Učenici mogu razumjeti ovaj koncept uspoređujući ga s igrom u kojoj je cilj proizvesti što manje smeća. Mogu naučiti o načelu „5 R's“ koje označava: refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle i rot, a pruža strukturirani pristup životu bez otpada. Kako bi se djeci mlađe školske dobi predstavio „zero waste“ koncept, mogu se koristiti praktične aktivnosti kao radionice i vizualna pomagala. Te radionice mogu uključivati reviziju otpada, gdje učenici skupljaju i kategoriziraju otpad iz svoje učionice, a zatim smišljaju načine kako ga smanjiti. Osim toga, može ih se potaknuti da stvaraju prerađene rukotvorine koristeći materijale koji bi inače bili bačeni, jačajući koncept ponovne upotrebe. Obrazovanje o konceptu bez otpada može se integrirati u sve nastavne predmete. Na primjer, nastava prirode i društva može istražiti utjecaj otpada na okoliš, dok nastava matematike može uključivati mjerenje napretka u smanjenju otpada. U nastavi orijentiranoj na društvene predmete učenici se mogu uključiti u rasprave o globalnom problemu otpada i važnosti individualnih akcija. Uključivanje zajednice ključno je za jačanje koncepta bez otpada. Školski projekti, poput pokretanja školskog programa kompostiranja ili sudjelovanja u lokalnim akcijama čišćenja, mogu pomoći djeci da uvide učinak svojih postupaka u stvarnom svijetu i potaknuti im osjećaj odgovornosti za okoliš. Uvođenje koncepta bez otpada učenicima u osnovnoj školi važan je korak prema izgradnji održivije budućnosti. Uključivanjem praktičnih aktivnosti, integracijom u nastavni plan i program i promicanjem angažmana zajednice, učitelji mogu najmlađoj generaciji učinkovito prenijeti važnost smanjenja otpada i brige za okoliš.
Abstract (english)
The concept of zero waste is becoming increasingly important in today's world as we grapple with environmental challenges such as pollution and climate change. It is crucial to introduce this concept to younger school-age children to instill sustainable habits from an early age. Zero waste is a philosophy that aims to refuse, reduce, reuse, and recycle materials in order to minimize the generation of waste and its impact on the environment. Students can understand this concept by comparing it to a game where the goal is to produce as little trash as possible. They can learn about the „5 R's“ principle: refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, and rot, which provide a structured approach to zero waste living. To introduce zero waste to younger school-age children, hands-on activities and visual aids can be employed. These activities might include waste audits, where students collect and categorize their classroom's waste, and then brainstorm ways to reduce it. Additionally, they can be encouraged to create upcycled crafts using materials that would otherwise be thrown away, reinforcing the concept of reusing. Zero waste education can be integrated into every school subject. For instance, science lessons can explore the environmental impact of waste, while math lessons can involve measuring waste reduction progress. Social studies can incorporate discussions on the global waste problem and the importance of individual actions. Engaging the community is essential in reinforcing zero waste concepts. School projects, such as initiating a school-wide composting program or participating in local clean-up events, can help children see the real-world impact of their actions and foster a sense of responsibility for the environment. Introducing the zero waste concept to primary school children is a vital step towards building a more sustainable future. By incorporating hands-on activities, integrating it into the curriculum, and promoting community engagement, educators can effectively convey the importance of reducing waste and caring for the environment to the youngest generation.
