The focus on the socio-emotional competence of educators is necessary considering the fact that children who are placed in institutional care often go through various socio-emotional challenges, therefore it is extremely important that educators possess skills that will enable them to successfully deal with these challenges. This final paper will consider the need for continuous professional development of educators in order to maintain a high level of socio- emotional competence. In addition, the paper deals with possible obstacles and challenges that educators face in developing these skills, exploring ways to overcome them and highlighting the importance of system support in the form of education, supervision and mentoring. The aim of the work is to present the relevant scientific and professional literature on the socio- emotional competences of educators in children's homes, to contribute to the understanding of the complexity of the socio-emotional dimension of the work of educators in children's homes, which will create a favorable environment for the emotional and social growth of children who are placed in institutional care . This paper also considers the importance of developing educators' interpersonal skills, such as empathy, communication and cooperation, in order to create an atmosphere of trust between educators and children. In doing so, the role of educators as models of behavior will be analyzed and how their emotional intelligence affects the formation of positive interpersonal relationships between children and staff in the children's home.
