U današnjem prometnom sustavu je sve veći prioritet smanjenje vremena putovanja, troškova prijevoza i povećanje slobodnog protoka robe. Zemlje članice Europske unije su razvile zajedničku transportnu politiku kojim se pokušavaju razviti navedeni sustavi. U razvoj utječu razne uredbe i direktive. In today's traffic system, it is increasingly a priority to reduce travel time, transportation costs and increase freight rates. Such a system is called the intermodal transport system. EU member states have developed a common transport policy that is trying to develop this system. Development is affected by various regulations and directives.
