Abstract
Zahtjevi bežičnih LAN (WLAN) mreža za funkcionalnošću i skalabilnošću u svim sektorima sve više rastu zbog ubrzanog razvoja novih mrežnih uređaja i aplikacija. Visoko školstvo nije ništa manje važno. Fakultet je heterogeno mjesto gdje se istovremeno očekuje veliki broj studenata koji mogu koristiti nekoliko različitih uređaja od kojih svaki ima različite zahtjeve za prijenosnim brzinama. Posljedično, planiranje mreže za takve okoline postaje izazov jer samo dodavanje pristupnih točaka ne predstavlja cjelovito rješenje. Postaje neophodno korištenje određenih alata pri dizajniranju, implementaciji, održavanju i otkrivanju problema u radu mreže kako bi se postigla potpuna svrha i skalabilnost mreže. U ovom je radu korišten softverski alat Ekahau Site Survey za validacijsku analizu trenutne WLAN mreže Objekta 71 Fakulteta prometnih znanosti Sveučilišta u Zagrebu koja je poslužila kao studija slučaja. Zatim su predložena tri scenarija prediktivnih modela za unaprjeđenje parametara WLAN mreže poput airtime-a, RSSI-a, propusnosti, broja i rasporeda pristupnih točaka te konfiguracija kanala i antena. Prikazani rezultati mogu poslužiti u rekonfiguraciji postojeće mreže vodeći računa o ispunjavanju različitih suvremenih korisničkih zahtjeva.
Abstract (english)
The demand for functionality and scalability of wireless LAN (WLAN) is increasing significantly in all sectors. This is because of accelerated development of new network devices and applications. The higher education is no less important. Faculty is a heterogenous environment where it’s expected large number of students simultaneous. They may use several different devices and each device can have different bandwidth requirements. Consequently, network planning for such environment becomes a challenge because only adding new access points is not a holistic solution. It is necessary to use certain tools during designing, planning and troubleshooting WLAN networks in order to achieve full scalability and purpose of the network. In this paper author used Ekahau Site Survey to validate existing WLAN network of Facility 71 of Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences at the University of Zagreb. As a result, three predictive models were proposed in order to suggest improvements of overall WLAN network performance, including airtime, RSSI, throughput, total number and layout of access points, channel, and antenna configuration. The results may serve to reconfigure the existing network to achieve various contemporary user requirements.
