Abstract
Cilj rada je usporediti ponašanje Sjedinjenih Američkih Država i Narodne Republike Kine kroz teoriju hegemonske stabilnosti Charlesa P. Kindlebergera. S obzirom na razornost i globalan razmjer financijske krize 2008., Kindlebergerova verzija teorije hegemonske stabilnosti postala je ponovno aktualna. Prema njoj, svjetsko gospodarstvo treba hegemona koji će stabilizirati sustav tijekom krize, a to čini održavanjem otvorenog tržišta za uvoz dobara, osiguravanjem konta-cikličkih kapitalnih tokova te omogućavanjem likvidnosti u krajnjoj nuždi. Kako se trenutni hegemonski status SAD-a sve se više dovodi u pitanje, a veliku ulogu u tome igra ekonomski narasla Kina, rad nastoji usporediti u kojoj su mjeri Kina, a u kojoj SAD, obnašale Kindlebergerove stabilizacijske funkcije tijekom i nakon krize 2008. Odnosno, u desetljeću nakon izbijanja najveće financijske katastrofe još od 1930-ih. SA
Abstract (english)
The purpose of this paper is to compare the behavior of the United States of America and the People's Republic of China through the lens of Charles P. Kindleberger's hegemonic stability theory. After the global-scale proportion and destructive of the 2008 financial crisis, Kindleberger's theses have become current once again. According to his theory, the world economy needs a hegemon that will stabilize the international economic and monetary system during the crisis. It does so by performing certain functions, such as maintaining an open market for the import of goods, providing counter-cyclical flow of capital and serving as lender of last resort. Given the fact that the current hegemonic status of the US is becoming increasingly questioned, primarily by China's economic growth, the paper's object is to compare to which extent China and the US, performed Kindleberger's stabilization functions from 2008 to 2018. That is, a decade after the biggest global meltdown the world has seen since the 1930s.
