Abstract
Ovo istraživanje poduzeto je kako bi se utvrdilo kako uvođenje novih digitalnih tehnologija, drugim riječima, implementacija smart cityja utječe na upravljanje u gradu. Cilj rada posebno je značajan jer kombinira koncepte pametnog grada i upravljanja te promatra empirijske manifestacije smart city governancea u kontekstu gdje su do sad primarno postojala teorijska istraživanja. Na praktičnoj razini, u radu se provodi studija slučaja grada Manchestera, korištenjem uglavnom primarnih izvora podataka u obliku službenih digitalnih strategija i nacrta, te sekundarnih podataka u obliku projektnih izvještaja. Ova analiza proizvela je specifične uvide u to kako se implementacija digitalnih tehnologija manifestira u različitim komponentama upravljanja u gradu. Rezultati pokazuju da, dok kontekst smart cityja značajno mijenja upravljanje gradom, sam cilj urbanog upravljanja se ne mijenja. Napokon, ovaj rad doprinosi postojećem tijelu istraživanja smart city governancea nudeći rijedak primjer empirijskog istraživanja u polju, te nudi bazu za buduća komparativna istraživanja o smart city governanceu.
Abstract (english)
This research is conducted in order to ascertain whether the implementation of new digital technologies in cities, in other words, the implementation of smart cities, affects the governance of a city. The paper's aim specifically is meaningful as it combines the concepts of smart cities and governance and observes the empirical manifestations of smart city governance where dominantly theoretical research existed before. Practically, a case study of the city of Manchester is conducted, using primary data of digital strategies and blueprints, as well as secondary data of research reports. This analysis produced specific insights into how the implementation of digital technologies reflects itself in the different governance components of a city. Indeed, while the smart city context does significantly affect the governance of a city, it's governance objective doesn't change. Finally, the thesis contributes to the existing body of research on smart city governance by being a rare case of empirical research in the field, and it provides a basis for future comparative research on smart city governance.
