This thesis examines how the authoritarian system in Russia uses penal policy as a means of manifesting its power, using Michel Foucault's concept of sovereign power as an interpretive framework. The paper analyzes various aspects of sovereign power through selected components of penal policy, including domestic violence, capital punishment, elimination and persecution of dissidents, prison conditions and military recruitment. By decriminalizing domestic violence, the legislation reinforces the conservative values ​​promoted by ruling elites, while at the same time neglecting the safety of vulnerable groups. The death penalty remains a symbol of resistance to Western values, despite a formal moratorium. The persecution and elimination of political dissidents, such as the case of Alexei Navalny, points to the systematic use of force to suppress internal threats. The prison system, characterized by abuse and repression, further strengthens the control of the sovereign power, which also uses prisoners for military operations, thereby further traumatizing and destabilizing society. Through these examples, the paper shows how the sovereign power in Russia is manifested through violence, repression and control, with the aim of ensuring the subjugation and obedience of its citizens.
