Abstract (english) The aim of this research was to find out the most common ethical irregularities in Croatian daily newspaper Jutarnji list within reporting about violence against women. All of the observed newspaper texts in this research were published in Jutarnji list in the period from January 1st, 2005 until December 31th, 2015. The paper includes five minor case studies, each containing two to four newspaper texts about a case, published in Jutarnji list. The cases were selected according to the
... More following criteria: particularly difficult outcome of the violence, the cases are published on the cover of Jutarnji list at least three times in the observed period, the violent act is committed with special cruelty to the victim, journalists are tracking and publishing all subsequent information and events related to the case (arrests, trials etc.) Although the sample of 15 analysed texts is not large enough to generalise the results of the research on all texts about violence against women in Jutarnji list, the research led to few conclusions. Primarily, the research shows that reporting about each of the five analysed cases contained some form of violation of journalism ethics. About half of the analysed texts contained inaccurate information, while one third of analysed texts contained anonymous sources of information. Also, the headlines and photos included in the analysed texts sometimes violate the ethical standards, which is most evident in texts aboout cases Kihalić and Podstrana. The results of the research have denied the main hypothesis, which stated that journalists of Jutarnji list always report on this topic in accordance with ethics. Violation of ethics in such cases can, in the worst case, further traumatize victimes and/or their families. The research also highlights the main ethical irregularities in reporting about crimes against women. Those are: anonymous sources usage in texts and publishing inaccurate or untrusted information. In the ten-year period covered by the conducted research, some positive changes have taken place, but the main conclusion is that the ethics of reporting about violence against women in newspaper Jutarnji list still did not reach the desired level, which implies following all ethical guidelines about reporting on violence against women.
