Abstract (english) | The objective of this master's thesis is to conduct a narrative analysis of videos published by YouTube pundits during the American presidential campaign of 2016, in order to observe the ways of creating meaning that is common to authors that are ideological opposed to the mainstream media which supported the presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. The thesis is based on the analysis of content published by authors who at first seem to be ideologically aligned and who, at least partially, parttake in the same audience, but after a more closer look at the narratives displayed in their work, we are able to observe ideological differences existing among the authors whose identity is in part shaped by them being placed in opposition to the mainstream. The analyzed videos analyzed are by Gavin McInnes, Steven Crowder, and Dave Rubin. The narrative analysis was conducted on two videos of each author, which provided insights into the topics that are important to the authors, as well as the meaning that is created and distributed to the audience. Narrative analysis is conducted in order to determine the way in which different ideological structures, brought together in their objective to oppose the mainstream, view the American society in 2016, what political topics they deem important in backing a presidential candidate, how they, trough retelling stories of past events, create a causal relationship that brings forward the reasoning for current discontent present in the American society, and how they present Hillary Clinton's constituency – whether it be referred to as leftists, liberals, or progressives, in order to shape their own identity. |
