Abstract
Ovaj rad istražuje potencijal otpadne plastike kao ključnog čimbenika u ostvarivanju niskougljične tranzicije društva, s fokusom na Grad Zagreb u okviru kružnog gospodarenja otpadom. Teorijski su opisani postupci obrade plastičnog otpada kojima pripadaju mehaničko recikliranje, kemijsko recikliranje, spaljivanje i odlaganje. Također, opisan je sustav prikupljanja i sortiranja plastičnog otpada koji je nužan za postupke recikliranja. Za postupke mehaničkog recikliranja, pirolize, spaljivanja i odlaganja proveden je proračun energetskog i emisijskog potencijala koji je iskazan kroz neto energije i emisijske ponore ili izvore. Budući da je cilj Republike Hrvatske do 2025. reciklirati najmanje 55% komunalnog otpada i da rezultati provedenog proračuna pokazuju energetsku i emisijsku prednost mehaničkog recikliranja pred ostalim postupcima obrade, posebno se razmatra značaj mehaničkog recikliranja plastike te ga se uspoređuje i kombinira s ostalim postupcima obrade. Dodatan se naglasak stavlja na visokoučinkovite sustave prikupljanja i sortiranja plastičnog otpada, pri čemu se mehaničkim recikliranjem postiže značajna energetska ušteda. Ostali postupci obrade pokazuju se manje vrijednim, a analiza rezultata naglašava ključnu ulogu visokoučinkovitih sustava sortiranja i recikliranja, u smanjenju potrošnje energije i emisija stakleničkih plinova, odnosno u iskorištenju potencijala kružnog gospodarenja otpadom za niskougljičnu tranziciju društva.
Abstract (english)
This master thesis explores the potential of plastic waste as a key factor in achieving a low-carbon transition in society, with a focus on the city of Zagreb within the framework of waste circular management. Theoretical descriptions include plastic waste processing methods such as mechanical recycling, chemical recycling, incineration and disposal. The system for collecting and sorting plastic waste, necessary for recycling processes, is also outlined. Energy and emission potential calculations were conducted for mechanical recycling, pyrolysis, incineration and disposal, expressed in terms of net energy and emission sinks or sources. Given Croatia's goal to recycle at least 55% of municipal waste by 2025. and considering the energy and emission advantages revealed by the calculations, especially in favor of mechanical recycling over other processing methods, the significance of mechanical plastic recycling is thoroughly examined. Emphasis is placed on high-efficiency systems for collecting and sorting plastic waste, where mechanical recycling leads to significant energy savings. Other processing methods appear to be less valuable, and the results underscore the crucial role of high-efficiency sorting and recycling systems in reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. This highlights the potential of waste circular management for a low-carbon societal transition.
