Engineering materials in form of complex constructional structures are increasingly exploited in extreme work conditions under multiaxial loadings. The optimal application of the investigated material is defined while observing and investigating material behaviour and durability under variable multiaxial loadings. The aim of numerous researchers in field of experimental mechanics is to improve testing methods by developing new models and improving the existing design of mechanical grips and test specimens. If realistic loads are presribed during the experimental investigation, the life cycle prediction of structural elements should yield with more reliable data. Development of multiaxial tests on uniaxial testing machines is huge interest since multiaxial testing machine are unavailable due to its high prices. The example of multiaxial investigation on uniaxial testing machine is Arcan test method. Due to the design of the Arcan grip, it is possible to impose uniaxial or multiaxial testing of the butterfly specimen. Hence, it is the main guideline of this project. In this work three concepts of Arcan grip have been developed based on functional decomposition and morphological matrix. Latter were combined and evaluated to gain the final design concept. The crucial parts of the final concept have been analytical calculated and the whole assembly has been analyzed via finite element method computations. The problems that appeared during the numerical analysis required design changes in order to satisfy the project requirements. Finally, the ultimate model of modular Arcan grip has been designed based on the finite element simulations and the tehnical documentation has been made. Furthermore, the proposed Arcan grip has been manufactured, so the tehnological process of production has been described.
