Nowadays, the expansion of technology impose high demand that are difficult to follow. In the industry, more and more machines have requires on high accuracy and precision positioning (measuring) as machine tools, measuring devices, medical devices, industrial manipulators. In order to achieve demands of accuracy and precision they must have quality guideways. However every guideway contains some straightness error so any deviation on the guideway will also appear in the final result. In order to eliminate this problem a guideway error must be measured, that problem will be explained in this thesis. Within this thesis the applicability of error separation method will be shown on different measuring devices to measure straightness error and guideway error. An introductory part of thesis describes the topic of master work from a broader point of view. A brief overview of the basic terms of metrology follows. The form and orientation tolerances have been explained with emphasis on tolerance of straightness and circularity, also methods of measuring deviations from straightness and circularity have been outlined. A reversal error separation method has been described in detail, also devices for measuring the straightness have been shown and described. To confirm the stability of the reversible error separation method, experimental measurements of the straightness error have been performed in the Laboratory for precise measurement lengths at the Faculty of mechanical engineering and naval architecture on the following devices: 2D measuring system, three coordinate measuring device and tool microscope, and measurement of circularity error on measuring device circularity. A comparison of the measurement results of different methods has been made and a conclusion at the end of the thesis has been presented.
