With today’s rate in science and industry advancements, improvements are smaller and smaller and at a much lower level. For observing, measuring and documenting phenomena needed for advancement, it is necessary to use very precise measuring equipment. The use of that equipment requires highly controlled environment in which it is used, because the experiment is as precise and as reliable as its weakest link. One of the biggest disturbances influencing the measuring precision are mechanical vibrations. Mechanical vibrations come in all kinds of forms, but the most problematic are the low frequency vibrations translated from the environment through foundation to the experimental setup. It is required to isolate the experimental setup from those kinds of vibrations and make them influence the measuring processes as little as possible. Optical tables are used for that purpose. They are most often comprised of a massive breadboard supported by 4 legs with isolation elements. In this paper an overview of the types of optical tables is given. After the overview, the passive isolation was chosen for the analysis and a mathematical model was made. Mathematical model was converted into a state space model and was imported into software called Matlab, where it was analyzed for the purpose of observing how the elastic and damping elements influence the response of the system.
