With the advancement of materials and technology, previously unfeasible technical solutions are rapidly gaining prominence, shaping the methods of warfare at the strategic, as well as the operational and tactical levels. Among these solutions stand hybrid vehicle propulsion systems, with the ability of pure electric drive, the integration of which results in an extended range while driving with frequent changes in speed, which is characteristic for off-road driving, and enables silent drive capability, which greatly improves tactical capabilities of military units and civil services. Special forces, whose missions frequently necessitate cover operations, are anticipated to derive the greatest utility from such a system. Currently, there are no hybrid versions of ultra light and highly modular vehicles suitable for military use on the wider market, so instead of the entire development, a concept of modification of available commercial vehicles is produced. Requirements are set for a retrofitted vehicle, off-road vehicle market analysis is carried out and a suitable candidate is selected. Different hybrid systems are assessed by criteria of performance, price and spatial constraints based on the created 3D vehicle model. Approximate calculations of required battery capacity, mass and required volume, as well as driving resistances, which are then compared with the characteristics of the proposed electric motor. Furthermore, some supplementary systems are proposed, with the aim of enhancing the vehicles capabilities for the benefit of special military units and civil services alike.
