Tourism is one of the largest industries in the world and the leading economic sector in world international trade. The diversity of modern tourist offer and selective forms has led to the fact that modern tourists can now choose between many forms of tourism. Environmental pollution, unhealthy diet, stressful and fast life of modern man have all lead to the demand for health tourism. For these reasons, holistic or wellness tourism today shows above-average growth rates and has become a global phenomenon of the 21st century. Wellness provides a positive way of life and unites activities aimed at maintaining and improving human health. Trends like orientation towards healthy living, disease prevention and aging of population, indicate that holistic, wellness tourism could become one the main motive for traveling in the future. Croatia is a country with extremely rich natural resources for the development of holistic, wellness tourism (from climate to sea and thermal spas). However, there is a problem of seasonality, and regardless of natural healing factors, wellness in Croatia is only an added value in the hotel, and not the primary reason for the arrival of the guest in the destination. With this paper I want to emphasize the importance of the development of holistic tourism in Croatia,which is recognized as an important and growing segment of the tourist offer and represents the future of tourism. The following scientific methods were used in the paper: deduction method, induction method, historical method and statistical method.
