Philanthropy (Greek philanthropia = love for people) is a value that acts on social change, promotes the principle of justice and seeks to solve social problems, strengthening social capital with the aim of better development of the human community. In its original meaning it is not necessarily related to money. For many years, philanthropy has been a universal term, but over time it has gained a broader meaning and today signifies action for the benefit of others. This paper theoretically and conceptually deals with the connection between the concepts of philanthropy, socially responsible business, ethics. Two types of philanthropy are addressed, individual and corporate. As such, entrepreneurial philanthropy appears in the activities of various civil society organizations, institutions from the public and business sectors, which allocate financial, material and intangible resources. We are witnessing that philanthropy is more and more present, especially in the last fifty years when we have explosions of civil society organizations around the world. At a time when mega companies rule the world, there is a growing gap between rich and poor, environmental disasters, pandemics, the growth of civil society organizations is one of the brightest hopes of mankind. We are all called to influence these challenges. This paper investigates philanthropic activities in the Republic of Croatia and the European Union. The research was conducted on the basis of data from past research and research entitled "Croatia donates 2019", the results of which were presented on the YouTube channel.
