Whiplash injury is often the result of a car accident. Whiplash injury can be divided into a whiplash injury and whiplash manevar. The whiplash maneuver is the movement without injury to the ligament structures, but the whiplash injury contains a ligament lesion. In a real whiplash injury movements of spine are above its normal range of motion and the spine is exposed to high acceleration force with sudden lateroflexion and rotation that does not occur in ordinary injuries, so it is necessary to determine the whiplash injury as a particular entity. Four types of forces can affect on the cervical spine: flexion, extension, rotation, and axial load force. The rarest injurys are the one caused by axial load forces, and the most common ones are the one caused by flexion. The area of C4 / C5 is the area of the greatest stress in hyperextension, and C5 and C6 in hyperflexion. In 82% of cases the symptoms are headache, in 62% of cases syptom is neck pain, in 45% of cases paraesthesia of the upper limbs, in 35-42% of the casec, thoracolumbar pain, and in 7-18% of cases dysphagia. Diagnosis of whiplash injury includes X-rays to rule out a ruptured vertebra, only in case of severe pain or in case of neurological disorders MR or CT should be done. The prognosis is usually good, neck pain and headache are ususally gone within hours, days or they can last for several weeks. Most of the patient recovers in three months. A small number of patients require treatment. The treatment includes NSAID group of drugs, orthoses on physical therapy. In this paper a case report is about a patient with a whiplash injury after a frontal collision, drug treatment and the course of physical therapy are presented here.
