Ispitanicama su izmjereni tjelesna visina, tjelesna masa, indeks tjelesne mase, opseg struka, opseg bokova i snaga stiska desne i lijeve šake.
Abstract (english) INTRODUCTION - Aging causes a loss of muscle mass and muscle strength, and major changes are manifested in skeletal muscle called sarcopenia. Lack of physical activity, poor nutrition and chronic morbidity accelerate this process and lead to life-threatening complications for patients. Regular physical activity and a quality diet can help prevent complications and maintain good health in postmenopausal women.
METHODS - The study involved 70 women divided into two groups. The first group of physically inactive subjects is consisted of 30 menopausal women belonging to the same local community of Sv.Petar u Šumi, and the second group of physically active subjects is consisted of 40 menopausal women included in the regular exercise program "Physical activity and proper nutrition against osteoporosis and diabetes." The subjects were measured for body height, body mass, body mass index, waist circumference, hip circumference and grip strength of the right and left hand.
RESULTS - Statistical analysis of the data showed that there was statistically significant difference in the measurement of body mass index between the first and second groups (p> 0.05). The waist-to-hip ratio analysis showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the first and second group of subjects (p <0.001), but that there was significant difference between the first and second measurements of the second group of subjects. The hand grip strength measurements showed that there was statistically significant difference between the grip strength of the right hand of the first and second groups. Moreover, results showed that there was a significant difference between the grip strength of the left hand in the first group and the first measurement of the second group of subjects. Additionally, there was no statistically significant difference between the first groups of subjects and second measurement of the second group of subjects (p<0.001).
DISCUSSION - A search of the databases revealed that physical activity has a positive effect on the overall health of the menopausal women, but further controlled research is needed that would take into account other components that affect women's health.
CONCLUSION – Regular physical activity has a positive effect on certain anthropometric measurements in menopausal women.
