Abstract (english) It is generally known that sport, or any kind of physical activity, is extremely important in preserving and improving human health. However, this good, healthy, positive side of sport can turn into bad and negative if a person overdose it. When it comes to the negative aspects of sports, it is primarily thought of more frequent injuries due to overtraining, a large amount of fatigue and eating disorders. These problems occur in professional athletes for clearly set goals, in contrast to recreational athletes who engage in physical activity primarily to preserve health, not damage it.
The aim of this research is to examine the attitudes and acquired knowledge of an individual handball player or football player about possible injuries that occur in or outside sports activities. Equally, the aim of this study was to examine athletes' knowledge of the types of injuries, the most common sports injuries, their rehabilitation and their duration. The study involved 30 active male athletes, including 15 handball players and 15 football players. Respondents completed an anonymous questionnaire composed of 28 questions.
The following results were obtained by analyzing the results. As many as 90% of players encountered an injury, and more than half of the players had the injury again. In the subjects, limb injuries were the most numerous with as many as 50 reported injuries, most of which were foot injuries (17). By analyzing the answers to the questions that examined the knowledge about the terms of sports injuries, it was proven that athletes are more familiar with injuries of the lower extremities than the upper ones, however, the respondents themselves believe that they are insufficiently familiar with them.
In order to change this conclusion, it is necessary to engage the entire sports team in educating the mechanism of occurrence and prevention of these injuries so that the player is absent from the field as rarely and as short as possible.
