Abstract
Naziv «palijativna skrb» odnosi se na angažiranost čitavog interdisciplinarnog tima. Iz hospicijske skrbi nastala je palijativna skrb. Hospiciji su postojali još u srednjem vijeku kao mjesta na kojima se pomoć pružala hodočasnicima, putnicima, slučajnim prolaznicima, malaksalima i siromašnima. U Velikoj Britaniji formiranjem modernoga hospicija sv. Kristofora započeo je hospicijski pokret. U Sjedinjenim Američkim Državama je već postojala teza da se skrb o umirućem pruža u njegovom domu, a o hospiciju se razmišljalo kao o filozofiji, a ne o stacionarnoj ustanovi. Hospicijska skrb podrazumijeva ispunjavanje tjelesnih, socijalnih, psihološko – emotivnih i duhovnih potreba pacijenata u terminalnoj fazi. Svrha palijativna medicine, kao vrsta medicine, je smanjiti fizičke i mentalne patnje i bolove, pojačati egzistencijalne mogućnosti i na taj način umirućim osobama poboljšati životnu kvalitetu. Palijativna se skrb, kao takva, može pružiti u posebnim medicinskim institucijama (hospicijima), te u samom domu umirućeg čovjeka. U palijativnoj medicini umiranje se smatra prirodnim i sastavnim dijelom života te joj je cilj pokušati učiniti ga što više dostojanstvenim. Zadaci u zdravstvenoj njezi palijativnih pacijenata su zaštititi bolesnikov dignitet, odgoditi ili smanjiti patnju bolesnika, omogućiti bolesniku kvalitetan život, smanjiti nepotrebne intervencije, eliminirati administrativne zapreke koje su nepotrebne te dati potporu obitelji u provedbi palijativne skrbi te u postupku tugovanja.
Abstract (english)
The term “palliative care” refers to the engagement of the entire interdisciplinary team. Palliative care emerged from hospice care. Hospices existed as early as the Middle Ages as places where help was provided to pilgrims, travelers, bystanders, the emaciated, and the poor. In Great Britain, with the formation of the modern hospice of St. Christopher started the hospice movement. In the United States, there was already a thesis that care for the dying was provided in his home, and hospice was thought of as a philosophy rather than an inpatient facility. Hospice care involves meeting the physical, social, psychological, emotional and spiritual needs of patients in the terminal phase. The tasks in palliative care are to protect the patient's dignity, delay or reduce the patient's suffering, enable the patient to live a quality life, reduce unnecessary interventions, eliminate unnecessary administrative barriers and support the family in the implementation of palliative care and grief.
