Abstract (english) The aim of the research is to see how much the coronavirus pandemic has affected people who exercise regularly and trainers in fitness centers, and changes in the habit of engaging in physical activity. The specific goal of the paper is to observe what kind of physical activity the respondents did, how often and whether there were changes in the frequency of training before and during the pandemic, and how employment status affects all this. It also aims to collect data on compliance with epidemiological measures in fitness centers. The above research is essential to see how much the closure of fitness centers has affected people who have previously exercised regularly. Respondents were men and women (older than 18 years) who trained in fitness centers in the City of Rijeka before and after the lockdown. The research was conducted through an online survey consisting of open-ended and closed-ended questions and sought answers to questions related to physical activity and going to fitness centers before and during the lockdown. Some of the questions were related to the frequency of training before and during the pandemic, adherence to epidemiological measures, physical activities they engaged in during the lockdown, etc.
The results showed that: there is a statistically significant difference in going to fitness centers before and after lockdown with considering employment status (P =0,014). Among the student population, 46.2% of students went more than before the lockdown, 23.1% less, and 30.8% went equally. When it comes to reasons (going to the gym), the largest number of respondents, 127 of them (82.7%) goes because of health, and the least motivated by going because of society (0.8%). There is a statistically significant difference in going to fitness before and after a pandemic (P<0,001). Before the pandemic, the largest number of respondents went to the fitness center 3-4 times a week, 70.9% of them, while after the pandemic, 57.5% of respondents continued to go with this intensity. From this it can be seen that the lockdown affected the exercisers a lot. It is now very important that both young and old are motivated to engage in physical activity as much as possible, since it has long been known how important it is in preventing disease and maintaining a good mood.
