Aim: Episiotomy is performed to widen the birth canal to facilitate delivery of the baby. It is a surgical expansion of the posterior part of the vagina through an incision on the perineum during the latter part of the second stage of labor. Although seven types of episiotomy have been identified, only three (midline, mediolateral, and lateral) are routinely used. Objective: To examine the number of births and the frequency of episiotomy in 2010 compared to the results in 2020 Methods: A total of 1,670 women who gave birth participated in the study, of which 826 were born in 2010 and 851 were born in 2020. Of that number, there were a total of 236 births with episiotomy in 2010, where 157 first-time births were in 2010, and 79 multiple births. Comparing the data obtained from 2020, there were 171 first births and 63 multiple births. Results: Comparing data for 2010 and 2020 births with episiotomy in primiparous and multiple births using Fisher's exact test to confirm the hypotheses, the results were that p>0.05 and that no statistically significant difference was found. What can be confirmed is that episiotomy is more common in primiparous births when looking at the total number of vaginal births and performed episiotomies in primiparous births for both compared years. Conclusion: It is important to reduce the rate of episiotomies in order to improve a woman's well-being and quality of life. The knowledge, awareness, and sensitivity of health professionals attending childbirth can be improved through professional development programs on limited episiotomy and its relationship to disorders that persist during the early postpartum period.
