Abstract (english) INTRODUCTION: Immobilization is a key part of conservative methods of treating loco motor system injuries, most commonly fractures or reconstructed ligaments or tendons, and is defined as partial or complete relief and restriction of movement of the injured segment. Immobilization of injuries of the loco motor system is most often carried out with the help of splints or casts, and the choice of immobilization is carried out by a doctor who assesses the stage and severity of the injury, the degree of instability, the risk of complications and the functional requirements of the patient.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of the research was to examine knowledge of loco motor system immobilization techniques among nurses and technicians. The specific objectives of the research were to analyze and compare the knowledge of loco motor system immobilization techniques among nurses and technicians regarding the level of education, years of service and the department where they are employed.
METHODS: Nurses and technicians who voluntarily decided to participate in the research participated in the research. The research was conducted through a questionnaire created by the author, and consisted of 5 questions that collected socio demographic data, 2 questions that assessed experience, and 20 questions that assessed the subject's familiarity with immobilization techniques. Knowledge of loco motor system immobilization techniques among nurses and technicians was processed using descriptive statistics methods, and differences in knowledge of techniques regarding level of education, years of service and department of employment were tested with the Chi-square test at the level of statistical significance of p <0.05 (5%).
RESULTS: A total of 51 respondents participated in the research, of which 88.2% were female and 11.8% male. According to each age group, 33.3% of respondents filled out the questionnaire. The largest number of respondents (64.7%) demonstrated sufficient overall knowledge of immobilization techniques for injuries of the loco motor system, and no statistically significant differences were demonstrated regarding the level of education and length of work experience. Respondents who immobilize injuries of the locomotor system every day have weaker theoretical knowledge compared to those who do it less often, and respondents employed in the department of orthopedics and traumatology are less familiar with immobilization techniques compared to respondents employed in other departments, but the differences are not statistically significant significant.
CONCLUSION: Nurses and technicians need additional training on immobilization techniques for loco motor system injuries.
