Abstract (english) Introduction: Pole dancing is a performance art form and sport that combines dance and acrobatics, performed on a vertical burlesque pole. This type of dance requires great strength, flexibility, coordination and endurance. The musculature of the hand and forearm has a great influence on the performance of the dance. It is necessary that the mentioned parts of the body are extremely strong and ready to carry part of the body weight and sometimes the whole body in order to avoid injuries during movements such as climbing, turning, twisting and other elements. It is believed that precisely because of the possibility of performing these movements, the grip of the hand is stronger than that of the general population.
Research goal: The aim of the research: The aim of this research paper was to determine whether the grip strength of the hand will increase, and to determine if there is a difference in the grip strength of the test subjects between the dominant and non-dominant hand. The period of continuous training between measurements was three months. The first measurement was made in the month of March, while the second measurement was made in July 2023. With this data, we will be able to potentially influence the quality of training and prevent the risk of injury during training or competition.
Subjects and methods: The inclusion criteria were women who practice pole dancing between the ages of 20 and 45. 25 beginner subjects participated in the research, who regularly engaged in pole dancing twice a week for an hour a day. The research was conducted in the space of the MOTUS pole dance studio. Data were collected by measuring hand grip strength using a dynamometer. The quality of data collection was ensured by measuring with the same measuring instrument by the same examiner, and by ensuring the same conditions during each measurement. A hydraulic hand dynamometer was used for the measurement.
Results: The grip strength of women in both hands increased statistically significantly. It was found that the dominant hand is statistically significantly stronger relative to the non-dominant one, all after a training period of three months.
Conclusion: Given the significant increase in women's hand grip strength after three months of pole dancing training, we can conclude that pole dancing as a physical activity has a positive effect on women's grip strength. In this way, we can potentially influence the quality of training and the results of competitions, and ultimately the quality of daily life of pole dancers.
