Abstract (english) Introduction: Flat feet (pes planus) are nowadays one of the most common orthopedic deformities and could cause many problems in elderly stage of life. Flat feet are defined as a condition in which only the longitudinal arch of the foot is reduced, only transverse arch of the foot is reduced or the combination of both. Main functions of the foot are: to ensure proper landing, orientation while walking and safe and stable standing. These funcions are enabled by developed arch that prevents painful conditions by avoiding compression of nerve fibers. Pedobarography enables effective monitoring of the distribution of foot pressure using software analysis to obtain foot images to identify pressure fields on specific parts of the foot. Flat feet can also affect balance, and one of the balance tests is Star Excursion Balance Test. Research objective: Research objectives are to examine association of flat feet with balance using the Star Excursion Balance Test, to compare the stability of the ankle of the dominant and non – dominant leg and to compare the results of the Star Excursion Balance Test between male and female students. Subjects and methods: Research participants constituted students of first, second and third year Physiotherapy that have flat feet and students with normal feet, i. e. feet without deformities. Research was conducted within the premises of the Faculty of Health Studies in the mid 2023. There were 30 participants. In the group that has flat feet, there were 9 female students and 6 male students, while in the control group, there were 8 female students and 7 male students. The Star Excursion Balance Test was used to measure the dynamic balance index. To test the hypotheses, Pearson's correlation coefficient and Student's t-test for small independent samples and Wicokoxon's rank test for non-normal distribution were used. The statistical data processing program MedCalc Statistical Software was used for statistical data processing. Results: It has been proven that there is no statistically significant difference in the dynamic balance index between subjects with flat feet and subjects with normal feet. Furthermore, it was proven that there is no statistically significant difference in the dynamic balance index between the dominant and non-dominant leg. Also, it was proven that there is no statistically significant difference in the index of dynamic balance between male and female students. Conclusion: There is no statistically significant difference in the index of dynamic balance between subjects with flat feet and subjects with normal feet. Also, dominant leg and gender do not seem to have any effects on balance.
