Ispitanici i metode: U istraživanju je sudjelovalo 20 studenata Fakulteta zdravstvenih studija Sveučilišta u Rijeci smjera Preddiplomskog stručnog studija Fizioterapije treće godine.
Abstract (english) Introduction: Headache is a very common condition that causes pain in the head, eyes and neck. There are many types of headaches, and migraine can be considered a major public health problem, being one of the leading causes of disability worldwide, causing a considerable number of clinical, social and economic problems. Increased numbers of comorbidities, such as stress, anxiety, obesity, but also unhealthy eating, too much time spent indoors, and lack of physical activity, are associated with headaches. Regular exercise has been suggested as a possible preventative and therapeutic option for migraines. Vitamin D is produced in the skin after exposure to sunlight and the oral absorption of vitamin D-rich foods. Vitamin D deficiency is a global health issue and has recently been linked to the incidence of headaches.
Objective: The objective of this paper was to present the relation of physical activity, that is, inactivity, diet, and vitamin D levels in the blood with the onset of headaches. Also, an attempt was made to determine whether higher levels of vitamin D in the blood and increased exercise in students had a lower incidence of headaches.
Subjects and Methods: The study involved 20 students from the Faculty of Health Studies at the University of Rijeka in the third year of the Undergraduate Professional Study of Physiotherapy. Most respondents were female (5/15). Questionnaires were used to evaluate the subjects: MIDAS and subjective questionnaire on physical activity, vitamin D-rich foods and sun exposure. Blood samples were collected to determine 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25 (OH) D).
Results: After statistical analysis of the data, it was found that people with lower levels of vitamin D had more headaches. Also, people who are less physically active have more headaches. A statistically significant moderate association was found between IU Vitamin D taken with sardine and vitamin D levels in the blood, confirming that the consumption of anchovies increased the concentration of vitamin D in the blood.
Conclusion: It can be concluded that a greater amount of exercise, and especially cardio exercise together with the intake of foods rich in vitamin D (sardines) and thus sufficient vitamin D, leads to less headache.
