Abstract Terapija potpomognuta ţivotinjama općenito se koristi kao model podrške uz ciljane intervencije ĉija je baza ĉvrsta povezanost izmeĊu ĉovjeka i ţivotinje, a u terapijskom smislu to je povezanost izmeĊu voditelja ţivotinje (terapeut, roditelj/skrbnik) i pacijenta.
Rezultati: Obradom anketnih pitanja rezultati pokazuju općenito zadovoljstvo roditelja terapijom uz pomoć terapijskog psa i odnosom terapeuta tijekom terapije izmeĊu roditelja i djeteta s autizmom.
Abstract (english) Animal assisted therapy is generally used as a support model with targeted interventions whose base is a solid relationship between man and animal, and therapeutically it is a relationship between the animal leader (therapist, parent/guardian) and the patient. This type of therapy has many positive effects that can be used in (re)habilitation purposes. Therapy dogs are largely used in the therapy of children, especially children with autism. Speaking od children, the dog's leader is usually his/her parent or guardian. In order for a parent to remain motivated in giving the necessary tasks and activities to a therapeutic dog, one of the most important factors of successful therapy with the help of a therapeutic dog is the parent's satisfaction with the therapy. Parent's satisfaction is still not being researched greatly, but in the current research it takes an increasing place as a way of measuring the quality of health care. Objective: To investigate the impact of dog assisted therapy on the quality of life in a child with autism from parent's perspective and to examine the satisfaction of parents with the therapy. Methods and subjects: 22 parents of autistic children who underwent therapy with the help of a therapeutic dog were selected for testing at the Rehabilitation Center Silver in Zagreb Silver. All children had to undergo an initial assessment of 4 meetings with the therapeutic dog. Parents with children came to therapy once a week. The parents completed a questionnaire consisting of several parts - sociodemographic data of the respondents, availability and correctness of information, attitudes of the therapist to the patients, skills specific to the therapeutic dogs, abilities, behavior and activities of everyday life of the child with autism.
Results: By examining questionnaires, the results show general satisfaction of parents with the therapy and the relationship between the therapist during therapy and the parents and the child with autism. There is a higher quality of life of the child after the therapy in the sense of the child's independence in carrying out various activities in the daily life of the child. Conclusion: The results point to the high potential of therapeutic dogs in the treatment of autistic children. Further research on a larger sample of parents needs to be done or a research that will focus solely on children with autism.
