In their lifetime, the drainage system facilities and structures are exposed to a range of adverse effects, which are direct or indirect causes for their devastation. Adverse effects can be brought about inside the sewerage where harmful biological, physical and chemical processes develop due to water action or, additionally, they can occur due to a variety of external actions such as roots-penetration, uncontrolled water inflows and infiltration of other waters, next, the vibrations caused by construction, earthquakes or traffic loads as well as other adverse affects caused by sedimentation or negligent conduct by the users of the community sewerage system. All these actions disrupt, i.e. prevent the normal operations of of the sewer. In the interest of good maintenance and management of the sewerage system as well as to achieve longevity of sewerage facilities and devices, and, on top of that, a healthier environment and human health, the sewerage system must be continuously maintained. Employing regular, preventive and investment-based maintenance procedures, the sewerage facilities and devices alike can be helped, damages eliminated, and the operation of the system and orking conditions of the maintenance workforce up-graded as well as extended the longevity of the drainage system. In a nutshell, the introductory part of this paper describes the development concept and the current conditions of the facilities of the public sewerage system of Vukovar. The chapters that follow elaborate on the equipment, procedures and technology through which it has been maintained continuously to provide for permanent functional capacity, namely the required afficiency.
