Abstract
Nitrati su bezbojne tvari koje se u okolišu pojavljuju kao rezultat ljudskih aktivnosti. Spajanjem dušika i kisika nastaju nitratni spojevi bez mirisa. Mogu se pojaviti u površinskim i u podzemnim vodama u niskim razinama koje ne uzrokuju zdravstvene probleme dok visoke koncentracije nitrata mogu biti posljedica otjecanja s odlagališta otpada, otjecanja iz poljoprivrede, nepravilne izgradnja bunara ili kontaminacije ljudskim ili životinjskim otpadom. Kada tlo sadrži više nitrata nego što je biljkama potrebno, višak se ispire kišnicom kroz tlo i odlazi u podzemne vode. Ako podzemna voda opskrbljuje izvore koji izviru u potoke ili jezera, nitrati mogu uzrokovati prekomjeran rast korova, cvjetanje algi te biti toksični za cjelokupni biljni i životinjski svijet. Podzemna voda koja se koristi kao izvor pitke vode može predstavljati veliki zdravstveni rizik ako se u njezinom sastavu nalaze visoke koncentracije nitrata. U ovom radu određivana je koncentracija nitrata u vodama za ljudsku potrošnju na 6 lokacija na području Varaždinske županije u periodu od veljače 2020. do veljače 2023. godine u prosjeku 3 puta godišnje. Uzorci površinske vode analizirani su pomoću uređaja Dionex Integrion HPIC. Rezultati su pokazali da su svi analizirani uzorci površinske vode na području županije u skladu s Uredbom o standardu kakvoće vode, odnosno da se vrijednosti nitrata nalaze unutar propisanih graničnih vrijednosti. Najveća koncentracija nitrata u Varaždinskoj županiji zabilježena je u rujnu 2021. godine i iznosila je 30,9 mg/l.
Abstract (english)
Nitrates are colourless chemicals that appear in the environment as a result of human activities. Nitrates are odourless compounds which are formed when nitrogen reacts with oxygen. They can occur in surface and groundwater at low levels that do not cause health problems, while high concentrations of nitrates can result from landfill runoff, agricultural runoff, improper well construction, or contamination by human or animal waste. When a soil contains more nitrates that plants need, the excess is washed by rainwater through a soil and they end up in groundwater. If groundwater supplies springs that flow into streams or lakes, nitrates can cause excessive weed growth, algal bloom and they can be toxic to flora and fauna. Groundwater which is used as a source of drinking water can pose a major health risk if it contains high concentrations of nitrates. In this work, the concentration of nitrates in water for human consumption was determined on average three times a year at six locations in the Varaždin County in the period from February 2020 to February 2023. The analyis was carried out by using Dionex Integrion HPIC. The analysis showed that the analysed water samples are in accordance with the Regulation on Water Quality Standards, i.e. the nitrate values are within the prescribed limit values. The highest nitrate concentration in Varaždin was recorded in September 2021 and it was 30.9 mg/l.
