Waste represents a loss of materials and energy and results from human actions in all economic activities and becomes one of the biggest problems of today, i.e. the problem becomes its disposal. There is no country in the world that has completely solved the problem of waste disposal. The most common waste disposal procedure is its disposal on a landfill. Landfills also receive the largest amount of generated waste. The main problems of landfills are the creation of a landfill gas and leachate. The gas must be extracted in a controlled manner because otherwise it accumulates and erupts, which can cause fire, explosion, poisoning, possibly the destruction of sealing layers which can lead to the penetration of rainwater, further environmental pollution and an increase in the amount of leachate. The paper analyzes the rehabilitated landfill "Jerovec", which is the only active landfill for non-hazardous waste in Varaždin, where waste is disposed of by 6 local governments. The total area of the landfill is 51,690 m2, and by December 2012, about 60,000 tons of municipal and non-hazardous industrial waste were disposed of. At the location of the landfill the composition of the landfill gas is controlled at reference vents. The purpose of the test is to determine the qualitative and quantitative composition of the landfill gas. For the purposes of the analysis of the landfill gas composition, the test reports on the performed measurement of the company EKOMONITORING d.o.o. are used.
