Abstract Porast broja stanovnika, rast životnog standarda te razvoj industrije i tehnologije imaju izrazito negativan utjecaj na okoliš.
Abstract (english) Population growth, the rise of the living standard as well as the development of industry and technology have a significant negative impact on the environment. Environmental degradation is manifested in excessive urbanization, inadequate waste management, emissions of harmful substances, light pollution, deforestation, destruction of habitats and biodiversity, as well as water contamination. Water, as a key resource of life, undergoes quality changes due to various contaminations from households, hospitals, agriculture and industry. Micropollutants, which are synthesized chemicals found in drugs, pesticides, and personal care products, have become the subject of scientific concern because of their persistence and potential danger. Although they are often present in low concentrations, their impact on the environment and human health has not been thoroughly investigated yet. The topic of this master thesis is the identification of micropollutants in the samples of surface water and groundwater from the Varaždin region using a modern hybrid analytical method. The research shows the presence of micropollutants in the Varaždin aquifer, which emphasises the need for their monitoring and reduction of contamination sources. Although industrial compounds, pesticides and pharmaceuticals are beneficial, they have potentially harmful effects on the environment and human health. Improving wastewater treatment methods, systematic monitoring and analysis of micropollutants, as well as education of professionals and the public are the key to preserving water quality. Also, it is necessary to consider limiting the use of harmful substances and searching for alternative solutions to ensure clean and safe water for future generations. This master thesis was written up within the Interreg Central Europe project called MAURICE "Management of Urban water Resources in Central Europe Facing Climate Change" and as part of the project water samples were collected and laboratory analysis was carried out.
