The swift integration of energy from renewable sources is at the forefront of the European Commission's plan named REPowerEU, which aims primarily to reduce energy dependence on natural gas through the widespread adoption of photovoltaic systems. However, the implementation and reliable operation of photovoltaic systems still pose potential challenges with the extensive use of these systems. One of the issues is the risk of fire occurrence and spread through photovoltaic systems installed on building facades and roofs. Numerous fires, particularly in systems installed on residential and industrial buildings, have prompted various studies focusing on the development of regulations and guidelines for products and installations, as well as maintenance of the systems, to minimize the risk of fire occurrence and spread. This thesis explains the operational principles of photovoltaic systems, describes system-related issues regarding fire risks, and addresses existing international guidelines for fire protection in photovoltaic systems. Additionally, this thesis presents a concrete example of a nursing home building where a photovoltaic system is installed according to adopted guidelines and instructions.
